The first hour after a crash matters most. Here is a simple checklist you can keep in your glove box.
First, check for injuries and call 911. Even a small crash can cause injuries you won’t feel until the next day. A police report also helps your claim.
Second, take photos: both cars, the road, traffic signals, and your injuries. Get the other driver’s name, insurance and license plate, and the names of witnesses.
Third, see a doctor within a day or two, and keep every bill and receipt. Insurance companies look for gaps in treatment.
Finally, don’t give a recorded statement to the other driver’s insurance company before you talk to a lawyer. A free case review costs nothing and can protect your claim.
